CT and MRI
We are unable to recommend for or against computed tomography (CT) or magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) as a diagnostic test for periprosthetic joint infection.

Rationale
Computed Tomography (CT)

One included study indicated that some CT findings are possibly useful in the diagnosis of periprosthetic infection, but more study is needed (range of positive LR: 0.3-46; range of negative LR: 0.04-1.3).19 The evidence indicates that CT may be a good “rule in” test but not as good a “rule out” test. This evidence is insufficient and does not allow a recommendation for or against the use of this modality.

Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI)

There is insufficient evidence to address the diagnostic efficacy of MRI for diagnosing periprosthetic infections. Based on the lack of evidence, we cannot recommend for or against the use of MRI.
