Aspiration of the Knee
The following companion consensus statement was developed by panels nominated by the American Orthopaedic Society for Sports Medicine (AOSSM) and has been approved by the American Orthopaedic Society for Sports Medicine's (AOSSM) Board of Directors.

In the absence of reliable evidence, AOSSM recommends that physicians consider aspirating painful, tense effusions after knee injury.
